often inserted into diet books. In the world of dieting, it seems that there is at least a hint of insanity. People believe that losing weight is simply science. That is what doctors claim as well as what many people believe they know. They explain that it takes eliminating 3500 calories per week to lose one pound each week. That is science. Some will even keep a diary, or an electronic diary online to calculate calories and the amount of exercise, but people do not lose pounds like clockwork. According to a student writing on this subject, Americans put too much faith into science to solve the obesity puzzle. Obesity is a multidimensional problem. Like addiction, it is a spiritual problem. A small percentage of people supposedly have glandular disorders, but even so, weight loss can be achieved if in fact someone has the desire to lose weight and takes some action to effect a positive outcome. Shaming people into losing weight does not work nor do most diets. Some experts in the self-improvement field claim that how people eat, how they are feeling, and whether or not they believe they can lose weight matters. For example, Dr. Mona Lisa Schulz, who is a medical intuitive and medical doctor, claims that a multitude of issues including psychological and emotional problems will cause someone to retain pounds. On her radio show, she gives an example of someone eating lunch with co-workers who are aggravated and that the food she digests will not be properly absorbed when she is in a negative emotional state. Other suggestions are to drink water at certain intervals, and while that is not an unusual recommendation when losing weight, few doctors will highlight the importance of hydration.
