In essence, World War I could limit its objectives (Safire, 1993). In this way, peace could come about at an earlier time. There is no need to continue to fight
when peace could be found. Indeed, what is unsaid is that peace would be the victory. That is, by ending World War One early, even if it was short of
total victory, it would better meet the needs of the people. Of course, liberalism was a bit optimistic. In a world filled with war and strife, it seems that realism,
or the more pessimistic view is more appropriate in analyzing world affairs. Unlike liberalism, realism is a model based on the assumption that states are controlled by people who
have a "will to power" and this is something with which they are born (Mearsheimer, 2002). In other words, people want power over others and this is something that
is aligned with the spirit of individuals. People run the countries. Hence, the countries have an " insatiable appetite for power" (Mearsheimer, 2002). The theory does make sense. After
all, competition seems to be aligned with human nature. Also, the idea that the world is in anarchy because there is no controlling authority is a good one. It is
also true that human nature may be equated with aggression driven by the desire for power. One can see this as boys grow up and they compete over everything. Siblings
seem to be in natural competition, but boys are more competitive. It is no wonder that men run the world, but according to this theory, it seems that this inborn
