end, St. Francis sacrifice and acts of humility and charity brought followers to his door. His followers would eventually number in the thousands.2 What was it that drove Francis
to his life of sacrifice? It was simply his passionate love for god. He believed every word Jesus ever spoke and tried to emulate Christ and follow His Words. He
never thought about the consequences of his practicing the lessons from Jesus. He enthusiasm and passion caught the imaginations of many others throughout Europe and then, the rest of the
world.3 There are more than a million Franciscans in the world today with 100,000 in just North America. In fact, this is the largest group within the Roman Catholic Church.
His influence can be evidenced in the number of musical compositions, paintings, rivers, steams, cities, towns, streets, documentaries and movies that carry his name.4 St. Francis preached sacrifice, serving and
giving but he did not just preach it, he lived it every minute of every day. He is, in fact, known as the "saint of humility, charity, and love for
all creatures great and small."5 People seem to be looking for something today, something beyond their material things which many find unfulfilling once they have them. Talbot and Rabey6 comment
