imagine people who have serious problems. However, many people who seek such help are not people with incredibly serious problems such as manic depression or schizophrenia, but people with depression,
fears, and anxiety of one kind or another. The following paper examines various kinds of counseling and psychotherapy and discusses why people get such help. Why Get Counseling or
Psychotherapy In first understanding why people seek out help we look at what counseling and psychotherapy are. One author notes that "Psychotherapy and counseling, the talking cures, are the practices
of healing your emotions, mind and soul through tending your relationships with your self, your family, your friends and your business associates" (LIFE Counseling Group, 2004). Counseling does not always
involve the sort of approach that specifically focuses on emotions, soul, and mind. Counseling is often finding answers to an individuals problems through understanding the causes, or unseen problems. But,
for the most part the same sorts of people seek both types of assistance. Another author helps us to understand the difference between counseling and psychotherapy, stating the following: "Counseling
is meant to assist people with problems of daily living. The counselor will help the person understand what is happening in his/her life and offer advice about changes in behavior
or other approaches that may help the person get what they want...Psychotherapy (therapy) is meant to assist people in understanding and mastering their own thoughts and feelings. Behavioral change and
