houses "the nations second-oldest population" (Wenner, 2004). To put the present situation into perspective, back in 2000, the number of full-time registered nurses approximated at around 104,500, already five
percent below demand according to statistics released by the Pennsylvania State Budget and Finance Committee (Wenner, 2004). According to data released in 2005, Pennsylvania presently is presently ranked 24th
in the lowest number of per capita registered nurses, and projections reveal a progressive shortage that could top 40,000 by the year 2020 (Pennsylvanias Response to Current and Projected Shortages
in the Nursing Workforce, 2004). According to Curt M. Selquist of Johnson & Johnson Health Care Systems, "We are facing the most profound nursing shortage in history, and Pennsylvania
is feeling the impact" (Pennsylvania Responds to Nursing Shortage Crisis, 2005). The reason for the lack of nurses in Pennsylvania is easily explained away; there are not nearly enough
nursing schools to meet the demand for the number of registered nurses a significantly high elderly population requires. The state of Pennsylvania currently has 9 major nursing schools, which include
the University of Pennsylvania (one of the most renowned facilities in the United States), the University of Pittsburgh, Clarion, Duquesne, Drexel, LaSalle, Penn State, Widener, and Villanova. A 2004
