without My Space, she might still be alive. The incident involved a "fraudulent profile on the social networking Web site" ("Mom: MySpace Hoax Led to Daughters Suicide," 2007). That
is, some "enemies" of this teenager concocted a hoax by creating a boy for Megan to fall in love with. Megan believed he was real, and a phony relationship was
established. After this fictitious boy dumped Megan, she killed herself ("Mom: MySpace Hoax Led to Daughters Suicide," 2007). Perhaps the story of Megan is the worst thing that could happen
on My Space. Of course, other things such as when personal information is elicited, violence can result, is also dangerous. Indeed, there are pedophiles and other sex offenders who creep
around the Internet. Yet, aside from terrible things happening, is there anything else negative about My Space? It does appear to be the case that My Space creates a way
for young people to interact. There is some redeeming valued for the phenomenon. Yet, some contend that as a result of all social networking sites, and even with the advent
of email and IM, communication between human beings has changed. People hardly speak to one another face to face unless they are at a planned social event. Nobel (1995)criticizes technology
in general. His main contention is not that technology is harming people-it is not-but that it hurts society in a different way (Noble, 1995). He explains the Luddist position and
what he is defending: "...the Luddites who resisted the introduction of new technologies were not against technology per se but rather against the social changes that the new technology reflected
