win the popular vote as well. Hardly a mandate, the Republicans claim that the vote for Bush was overwhelming. This all goes to show that much depends upon perspective. That
said, Kerry lost, and the big question for supporters is why. It does seem to be true that Kerrys physical appearance was a downside as was his snooty and
outspoken wife with a foreign accent, Teresa. But they had John Edwards too, a man only a decade younger but with a lot of personality and good looks. If Kerry
did not have charisma, he at least relied on Edwards to bring in that female vote. But it was not enough. Edwards was hurt by his image as an ambulance
chaser and Kerrys flip flopping on a number of issues did him in. Of course, it is perhaps true that he could have gotten around that, but the war record
he so proudly displayed was suddenly in question. Did he really say that he was a murderer in Vietnam? Were his medals thrown in the fire some years ago? Did
he really deserve the medals in the first place? What sort of injuries did he have anyway? Many questions did linger before the election, something that caused people to wonder
whether or not Kerry was hiding something. John Kerrys wife would also make a few faux pas, but even that could have been dealt with. Again, each of these
things in and of themselves might have been circumvented. Damage control could have been done and to some extent, Kerry did not do too badly. But the vote was for
George Bush and it was overwhelming. Yes, it does depend who one asks but by the next day, Kerry conceded. While many things entered the picture when it would come
