other side of the argument is that with so many dysfunctional homes, and many gay couples wanting to adopt, who is to say what is best? If two loving people
can provide a good home, what is the problem? There are arguments on both sides of this issue that make sense. Ideally, children can benefit from both genders in the
home because they need role models for each of the sexes. Also, there is much prejudice in the world regarding gay families. Why raise a child in a home that
will be replete with controversy? Another reason against gay adoption is that the gay lifestyle is one that is not societally sanctioned. When two parents of the same gender adopt,
parental rights get sticky. There are problems. There is no gay marriage, so when one partner dies, there are sometimes legal entanglements. On the NBC show ER, Carries partner dies
in an accident and she is the birth parent of their son, Henry. Carrie is Henrys mother too, but the law does not see it that way and Henry is
given to his biological grandparents. Hence, one can see how legal issues can be problematic. This is a fictional account but things like that do occur in real life. An
example of a conflict is that Oklahoma passed into legislation a dictum that would negate gay adoption. The law could be interpreted in such a way as to nullify legal
adoptions for gay or lesbian parents even when those adoptions occurred in other states (Norris, 2005). While it seems that the world is against gay parenting, that
