versa. Aside from that observation, those who are abused at home may not perform well on the job. Domestic abuse will certainly affect the workplace in more ways than one.
There is much evidence to support this assumption, which is why employers should take a proactive role when any of their employees are involved in a domestic violence situation. Zachary
(2000) examines workplace violence and sees it as an increasing problem. Interestingly, some companies that have programs to deal with violence see a connection between workplace violence and domestic abuse
(Zachary, 2000). Woodward (1998) explains that "there is an even greater threat that employers face from domestic abuse: a spillover of violence into the workplace." Violence in the
workplace, stemming from domestic violence, is not as rare as employers might think (Woodward, 1998). While each type of violence appears to be different in nature, they do have a
relationship. How might an employer be able to tell when there is a threat? Warning signs of an employee who might be prone to violence are absenteeism, lateness, inability to
focus, nervousness, poor performance, unexplained injuries and inappropriate clothing that might mask bruises (Zachary, 2000). Someone who perpetrates violence in the workplace may in fact be someone who is abused
or is an abuser at home. Changes in personality may be an indicator as can taking off from work to go to court (Zachary, 2000). Of course, no one sign
suggests that someone will shoot up the workplace, but if an employee is aligned with a number of signs, and people feel uneasy about a particular worker, that individual may
