FURTHER RESEARCH 13 REFERENCES 14 1. Introduction The low level of advanced exams taken in the United States
may be cause for concern, it is estimated that only 7% of students take these examinations due to their voluntary nature. Indeed, looking at the US educational system it may
be argued there is little incentive to take specific subject advanced examinations, they are not needed for university entrance, nor are they an integral part of the job market, the
main qualification where a degree or professional qualifications are not needed, is a high school diploma. In many other countries, such as the UK, France, Germany and Japan, in order
to gain entrance to University it is a requirement that advanced level examinations are passed. Literature appears to indicate the theory is that US students lack the motivation
to take the examinations and even when they are taken there is a lower level of motivation to study for them as they will not impact on the students future
prospects, the resulting perception is one of allocating lower personal commitment. However, we may also argue that it is the job placement situation that also has an impact. If this
lack of motivations is the true then the opposite would also be true, if university or collage admission did not require advanced examination result for entry the level of exams
taken would show a reduction in the level of results. Research is likely to show that there is a high level of correlation between the taking of exams and the
attendance at higher or further education in the countries where the exams are needed, and where there is not the research is likely to show that there is same correlation.
