necessary, there are particular hot spots in the free world which warrant agreements so that long standing battles might finally come to an end. For the most part, these fights
involve religion. Israelis and the Palestinians have been fighting over territory for decades and Ireland has always been divided by which brand of Christianity will win. But in these battles
there are no real winners. The pictures of the losers are plastered in the newspapers as suicide bombers make their statements again and again. What has occurred to help
alleviate the situations is that interventions, usually with the help of the U.N. or other states, have created a more amicable atmosphere. Meetings occur, sometimes even in the White House,
so that those who disagree can meet and sign agreements to settle their difference in a more peaceful way. While treaties are good ideas, and help to get the ball
rolling in terms of effecting peace, they have by and large not been successful. How and why do treaties amongst nations or countries lead to instability? After all, the agreements
are supposed to create peace. The question is difficult to answer. If anyone did have a legitimate answer as to why the treaties usually fail, they would abandon them
and substitute them for what works. But up until now, there has not been another viable solution for problems which plague regions riddled with violence. Thus, peace talks are the
rule in a world that looks for a better way to live. The Middle East is perhaps the most heated region and in reviewing the literature on this subject,
in order to answer the question as to why the treaties do not work, the quest will begin by looking at reports which focus on that area of the world.
