The distance learning environment does help one to embrace knowledge without compromising their present lifestyle. This enables many people who would otherwise not be able to attend centers for higher
learning the opportunity to do so. One benefit of the Open University and other institutions like it, as discussed by Bork (1997), is that it can provide good education
to a great number of students at reduced costs. College is expensive, particularly if room and board is necessary. Distance learning allows students to attend universities that would otherwise provide
logistical challenges. Of course, distance learning is not peculiar to high level institutions. It is something that is also aligned with regular K-12 public school. Sometimes, for example, there are
situations where summer school is best taken through one of these online learning facilities. Some schools today do not have resources to provide summer school at no cost and so
they instead prompt students to enroll in another facility for a nominal fee, or take an appropriate online course. This is quite a convenience for regions where failure rates are
high and student space is low. Still, while distance learning seems to be a convenience at the high school level, it may seem too "light" for higher learning. Are college
