In all things-religion, philosophy, art, literature-when participants want to exclude all else, there is something awry. There is after all, no correct artistic style. Architects cannot embrace a style and throw everything else out that came before. That would be akin to Andy Warhol having thrown out the entire Renaissance movement because his soup cans were going forward, while the Leonardo Da Vinci work is old hat. Art is all inclusive. If something is popular during a period, it should not be exclusive. Rather, it should seek to be able to tolerate other movements while shining in its own right. One interesting note is that deconstructivism had emerged as a movement that was not given any respect for a time. In 1988, The Museum of Modern Art held a show for architects who want along these lines, but it was seen as a unique show, not a way of life (Vidler, 2003). Nearly two decades since the architects were not taken seriously, the style has emerged as important in the scheme of things (Vidler, 2003). The architects are taken seriously now, despite the unique nature of the buildings at the time. Architectural students are taught a great deal about deconstruction, something that irks traditionalists. Is there any value to the movement? Is the paradigm so good that it deserves a prominent place in history? Will it replace old models? In delving into this subject, it seems that while there is some value to the movement, it really should not supersede previously held precepts in architecture.
