others. For example, a recent incident occurred in New York City where an average man jumped on the train tracks to save a teen having a seizure. This is unusual,
but the point that people try to help others is made. Helping others is not unusual, even though that particular incident was really above and beyond what most people would
be willing to do. One thing that many believe is important is to report crime to police. In this day and age, the reporting of crime is important. It
renders neighborhoods safer. People who look the other way are responsible for the commission of more crime. Police have a hard time tracking down criminals and claim that tips are
the best way to find a criminal. For example, in big cities, the drug dealers are well known to the neighbors but they are not always known to the police.
Although it seems to be the case that dealers should be turned in, people fear for their lives and often choose not to report the crime. Similarly, in corporations, people
fear for their livelihoods. They know that if they call the police and report an individual, that individual may retaliate. This is true even when it comes to anonymous tip
lines. The drug dealer will figure out who called and then, that endangers the life of the tipster. In corporate whistle blower programs, the same thing may occur. Executives know
who is on their side instinctively. It is difficult for people to live up to their ethical standards at some firms. Because of this, people sometimes leave their jobs.
