psychopaths. The idea is that if everyone is tested at birth, these people can be isolated from society. While it may make sense to perform such tests as routine, the
truth is that even if there were a gene that could predict psychopathy, it is likely that other factors would determine the course of behavior the individual takes. That is,
even when one has a gene for any type of condition, there is no telling how the condition will manifest. Thus, those who are prone to psychopathy will not necessarily
develop it, or act on it. Therefore, and due to other ethical reasons, such a plan would be immoral. The idea to test everyone at birth to determine his
or her predisposition is reminiscent of many futuristic films that challenge contemporary thought. Gattaca, a film that came out several years ago, demonstrates the problems that might arise if human
beings take technology too far. In the film, the government is privy to the bloodline of the every individual. Citizens are judged by whether or not they had been conceived
in the best possible way. In this future world, those born in a natural manner, and who may have genetic flaws, are treated as pariahs. Although the film is science
fiction, this along with other fictitious works demonstrates the problem of human nature and how people can become stigmatized by their genetic makeup. The questions raised by such inquiries certainly
create a paradigm in which to view the problems of genetic testing. While genetic testing is problematic because it can affect insurance rates, it creates stigma unnecessarily, and results in
