similar ideas, did differ on many positions. The two philosophers were not in total disagreement, of course, but there was enough of a difference to highlight them. Plato saw
harmony and proportion as being integral when discussing the order of the world. In the Republic, Plato examines the parts of the soul. This is one example to demonstrate that
Plato was examining subject matter quite relevant to the common man. People do think in terms of their soul and what it means in the scheme of things. Harmony
of the soul of course is necessary. In many respects, while Platos description of the soul does present a broader view of man as he is more than just human
flesh, there is a sense of coldness in Platonic thought. There is also a sense of order that just may not be appropriate. Plato would come to conclusions based on
conjecture and there is little proof to back up many of his claims. This observation is true of many philosophers of course. While they often rely on proofs, some of
the statements and conclusions really have no scientific or physical backing. However, in some way, Aristotle was able to get beyond the physical in a dramatic and practical
way. While Aristotle saw the heart as just a physical organ, he had an idea that seemed to supersede Platos in that he understood the concept of essence. For Aristotle,
an artifact has an essence and truth that is similar to the soul and truth of a natural object. In other words one could compare a house to a tree.
