The OJ Simpson trial serves as a good example. When the verdict was read, the African American community was ecstatic that another black person was not carted off to death row, while the white community was disappointed in the system. Yet, one could take things a step further and say that the black community was interested in justice for all, and not for OJ. They saw America as being unjust in respect to black people and so OJs victory was a victory for all Americans. Finally, the white communitys reaction might have had more to do with the fact that OJ was black and had been married to a white woman. White people simply thought he committed the murders even though there was not enough evidence to convict. While people dwell on DNA evidence, the truth is that OJ once was very much part of the dwelling where the evidence was found. Would a white man have been given the benefit of the doubt that his DNA had been there prior to the commission of the murders? This brings one to the initial assumption that America is the land of opportunity. Is it for all?
