Many activities are based around, or include the use of alcohol, the buildings of public houses and wine bars and areas that are specifically for the consumption of alcohol. These
are places of gathers, either for social or more formal business purposes, a social drink is seen by many as a necessary part of life. The use of alcohol at
other times is also well established, from greeting a baby; wetting the babies head, to celebrating at birthdays and weddings, or even taking a drink when someone has a shock,
the use may be seen not only as habitual, but also ritualistic. It has been proven that moderate amounts of alcohol can
be beneficial to the health. However, this does not explain why it is that alcohol has developed such as strong place in the social context. One aspect that we may
wish to consider is the way it may not be as readily available as many other drinks. Unlike soft drinks there is a need for preparation and maturation, to allow
the alcohol to ferment, This in itself give alcohol an added value. The time of preparation may be anything from a short period of time to over twenty years as
seen in many of the cask matured whiskeys and ports. The production of alcoholic drinks has become an art form, the ability to blend grape or grain to produce a
good tasting drink is one that is highly values, in much the way a master craftsmans work is admired. Therefore, we can
