is a thing of the past, others argue that it is still a very problematic reality. Amidst the realm of racism is the underlying truth, or un-truth, of the white
skin privilege myth. Just by being white many believe that privileges exist. The following paper examines, and reacts to, Paul Kivels Uprooting Racism: How White People Can Work for Racial
Justice, which argues that it is not a reality, and Tim Wises The Absurdity (and Consistency) of White Denial: What Kind of Card is Race?, which argues that it is
a reality. White Skin Privilege: Myth or Not? In Kivels essay the author is supposedly arguing that it is, indeed, a
myth that white people are treated better than minorities. But, in truth the author is more focused on illustrating, as his title indicates, how people can change things. His essay
does not really ever claim that people with white skin do not have privileges in society. He focuses on how people of white skin come from ancestors who had to
work hard to become part of the white race, but he does not seem to make any solid claims that indicate privilege based on skin color is a myth. He
generally focuses on how so many people have worked hard to become part of the white race. This, in and of itself, would clearly be something that one could use
as an argument for privilege being a reality because by working hard to become white one obtains privileges. Yet, at the same time, a Polish individual of times past, no
matter how hard they worked or not, would always have an advantage over a black individual because Polish people have "white" skin.
