Truddi Chase. It is a real life situation of one woman who sought the reason for her constant blackouts. What unfolds is a psychological and psychiatric nightmare for the woman,
but a fascinating subject matter for anyone in a profession that studies the human mind. The following paper summarizes the book and also discusses its relevancy to psychiatric nursing.
When Rabbit Howls "The Troops for Truddi Chase (they chose that name for themselves because they chose not to become an integrated single personality after having been in treatment
for years) condensed the events in this book into a period of a few months. The body housing all these multiple personalities, which bears the name Truddi Chase, was originally
assigned to a Child Protective Services psychologist for the same reason a lot of adult criminals are charged as juveniles" (Eponions, 2003). The reason: "She was abused as a child,
and it was thought that this psychologist might be able to help her more than someone out in the field in private practice" (Eponions, 2003). The person who ended
up working with this woman discovered that she had upwards of 90 different personalities within her. These personalities existed because "she was trying to avoid the trauma of reliving all
the abuse shed suffered - child molestation at the hands of a brutal stepfather, witnessing equally-brutal bestiality (they lived on a farm), and a consequent inability to sense the passage
of time" (Eponions, 2003). We note that at one point the woman known as Truddi completely disappeared and lost track of time. moving about in an attempt to find peace
in her world. Throughout the book it becomes obvious that Truddi is not cured, nor is it likely that she ever will be. And in this we see many
