context of international relations focuses on political interactions such as aggressive behaviour, conflict, peace treaties and negotiations etc. (Brown and Ainely, 2009, p1). Other theorists take a broader view; defining
international relations with reference to all types of cross-border transactions, not only political, but also economic and social (Brown and Ainely, 2009, p1; Bayliss et al, p2). Studying International Relations
in this context is just as likely to undertake an examination of international trade issues and the way in which non-governmental organisations and multinational corporations have an influence at international
level (Brown and Ainely, 2009, p1). It maybe argued that the subject itself is not new, or for millennia civilisations have undertaken study of the way in which different international
actors interact, going back to the time of Thucydides in ancient Greece. However, it maybe argued that the study of International Relations only became an independent academic subject in its
own right during the 20th century, which it may be noted occurs with the increasing level of globalisation (Bayliss et al, p2). International Relations is studied looks at the
way in which the different relationships between the international parties, whether they are governments, NGOs, or multinational corporations, will draw from a number of different disciplines. Areas may include, but
are not limited to, disciplines such as international law, economics, cultural studies, philosophy, sociology and even philosophy. These are all incorporated into the subject as they all are relevant in
