potential to reach a large number of people, but to be effective the advertisement needs to be carefully considered before it is created and placed. The goals need to be
defined, but to reach the goals the advisement needs to be able to grab or attract the attention of the target audience. This is perhaps the easy part of the
advertising recipe. There are many examples of attention grabbing advertisement. In a recent advertisement on UK television there is a diesel engine
and a happy sing about clean engines accompanied by an animation, it attracts attention, but it is unlikely that you will remember who or what the advertisement was for.
In this case it was for Peugeot engines and as most people would not be in the market for a diesel engine then
their retention is not as important. However, if you were thinking of buying a diesel engine you would probably remember the advertisement and the message very clearly. It is this
that is the greatest difficulty; ensuring the advertising is not only noticed, but that the message is retrained and can be used. For
a message to be retained the first characteristic is that the message has to bee clear and unambiguous. There are numerous theories regarding the way a message should be generated.
