book gets to the heart of the human experience and existence. In some way, it is a philosophical inquiry into the state of man. The book reveals several things inclusive
of ideas about justice, human knowledge and immortality. These are profound topics which addresses spiritual needs and human issues. The concept of justice, for example, is one that is
often aligned with something that comes from within. There is a sense that people have an innate sense of freedom and that things just must be fair. Justice is something
that is a large part of humanity and is a subject addressed in the Republic. Another issue broached in The Republic is that of human knowledge. Are people really
blind to what is going on, or do they possess a deep sense of knowledge? Are they chained and shackled to a particular view? Does society feed people misinformation and
create illusions, or are people free to do and think as they like? Finally, a third theme in The Republic, that does contain a multitude of ideas, is immortality. This
is the quintessential subject, and one that has never been resolved. Man fears death and by addressing life beyond the present life, there is great interest. Plato looks at all
of these things in his book The Republic. In Book I, justice is discussed and it is deemed a human virtue (Plato, 1992). As Plato sees it, is appears that
people can be themselves--just or unjust-- and it is better to be just. Justice is used by Plato in a way that is quite different from what most people are
