the focus of mainstream America. Everything from our fashions to our entertainment choices are sexually suggestive. With such a focus it is no wonder that unprotected sex is
such a problem in so many components of American society. Some, however, continue to ask the question of what is causing this propensity for unprotected sex. In reality
the answer, although two pronged, is really quite simplistic. First, our societal morals and mores are at an all time low. Second, we seem to be more ignorant
today than we have been at any other point in history! In our modern world, however, there is not only no excuse for unprotected sex, there is no room
for it! To demonstrate the contentions presented above we must first accept several facts about sex. Human sex is an integral part
of individual and indeed social identity. Sex and sexuality play a multitude of roles in society. They determine to a large degree how we relate to others
and even how we perceive the world around us. Sexuality impacts our value systems and our philosophy of life. It is an integral part of our self concept.
Sexuality is much more than the specifics of an individuals biological makeup. Sexual behavior includes not only intercourse but also
reproduction and childbirth. Each of these are important societal behaviors vary according to an individuals culture and the culture they operate within. It is culture in fact which
places certain constraints on sex and sexuality. Culture, however, can also loosen restraints on sex and sexuality. That is what we see happening in the phenomena of unprotected sex.
