is not to say, however, that just because a female candidate has finally made it into the United States history books that she is necessarily the right person for the
job; while Clinton garnered tremendous support in her early days as a womans First Lady, this stellar reputation has since been severely tainted in the eyes of staunch feminists with
many believing she has become nothing more than what the LA Weekly calls "a ventriloquist for the patriarchy with a skirt and a vagina" (Chaudhry, 2007).
In the article entitled What Women See When They See Hillary, Chaudhry (2007) illustrates the downward spiraling trend of Clintons popularity with her own gender in general
and feminists in particular as being the direct result of a shift in beliefs that at one time benefited the female gender yet now perpetuates the long-standing male approach of
marginalizing the fairer sex. Dorothy Smiths feminist standpoint theory identifies this inherent tendency of a male-dominated society whereby the entire social and political landscape is carved from the mindset
of masculinity, a reality that has historically marginalized the female gender due to a calculated absence of women in decision-making roles. As Seidman (2007) points out, the feminist movement
took hold as the "political vehicle for womens quest for social justice" by which to address womens personal issues as being "social and political in origin" (p. 209). Chaudhry (2007)
