assist in discerning exactly what went wrong at these corporations. For example, one criticism of Polaroid is that it did not embrace "digital photo storage technology" and its failure
to adapt is a serious mistake ("Polaroid," 2004). The company had also been criticized for its financial mess in that while it filed bankruptcy in 2001, many of the
executives and stock holders did well (2004). Polaroid has also never been able to grow globally. Baar, Gianatasio & Norton (2000) comment: "It is not the first time Polaroid has
considered a global consolidation or the first time the two shops have squared off. In October of 1998, they both presented global branding ideas, but nothing came of that exercise"
(p.5). A student writing on this subject might conclude that Polaroids financial fiasco superseded any potential progress the company would be expected to make. Similarly, Xerox endured a
financial disaster as did Polaroid. These Enron-style problems seem to be something that had been brought on from the leadership within. Xerox also used creative accounting practices to hide money,
something which eventually would cause its stock prices to plunge (2004). Xerox also make mistakes earlier on. During the 1970s and 1980s Xerox wanted to diversify but their plans did
not succeed ("Xerox," 2004). This was an important time for Xerox as its patent had expired; the patent is related to copier technology (2004). Finally, Xerox ignored other technologies
and missed the boat on things like Ethernet and laser technologies (2004). A student writing on this subject should note that analysts comparing Xerox and Polaroid say that both companies
