and sells a multitude of fancy glassware products, all of which can be personalized to suit the customer. The company has maintained a competitive advantage based on their designs and service. However, other large companies that are generally involved in mass production have devised technology so that they can also compete in this niche market. During the last two years, the company has seen declining revenue. The CEO decided to establish a multifunctional team to problem solve and to develop a plan to regain market share. The CEO also hired a long-term temporary group leader, Justin, for the team. Staff include five artists plus the manager, Laurie, who is an artist herself. Laurie is a member of the team. Other members include Clara, finance manager, Joe, manager of manufacturing, Eddie, manager of distribution, and Frank, manager of sales and marketing. The CEO instructed Justin to lead the multifunctional team and within the next six months, the CEO expected Justin to come up with a comprehensive strategic plan to successfully realign the company in such a way as to gain back their position as leader in the industry. Prior to the first team meeting, Justin introduced himself to each of the managers who were assigned to the team and spent some time talking with them about their job and how their departments operated. At the first meeting, Justin explained the CEOs instructions for this group. This resulted in a free-flowing discussion about the companys present position with some managers expressing concern for how they were going to turn the company around.
