General Electric now promotes virtue along with its light bulbs and jet engines; Starbucks actively supports independent, small-farm coffee growers while also making health insurance available to virtually
all of the employees at its more than 12,000 locations. Nike operates with total transparency since its sweatshop problem several years ago, and challenges its competitors to do the
same. On the other side of the same coin, Rite Aids billion-dollar financial fiction did not occur spontaneously, nor did Enrons demise into oblivion, taking with it the livelihood
of thousands and the life savings and retirement funds of many others. Though it can be argued that neither Rite Aid nor Enron
intended to come to the conclusion they did, it also can be argued that GE, Starbucks and Nike did not achieve their admirable positions without intending to behave better than
