means many things to many people. Patriotism for some means blind obedience to all their nation does or demands. For others patriotism means supporting ones nation in positive endeavors and
in positive evolution. The following paper presents what patriotism means to me. What Patriotism Means to Me As mentioned, some people believe that patriotism is blindly believing in
the government, and perhaps even believing the wrong things blindly going along no matter what the consequences. For example, some people argue that, "Our country has been the champion for
freedom and human rights since it began" and then argue that statement in light of the following statement: "We hold certain Truths to be self-evident, that all men are created
equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness" (). In truth these words did not
apply to anyone who did not own land, was not white, and was not male at the time they were written. If someone were to claim that patriotism was based
on these lines at the time of their emergence then they would not have fought for equal rights for all people. But, it is perhaps those people who fought for
the true freedom of all people that were the most patriotic. Patriotism is something that ultimately means you believe in your country and are proud of, at the very
least, the ideals of their nation and where their nation could ultimately go. This means that a patriotic person will argue against an injustice they see being done as it
applies to those ideals. Many people claim that a person today who argues against involvement in Iraq is not patriotic but in truth they are patriotic. They are arguing for
