the myriad of college dropouts such as Bill Gates and Rush Limbaugh demonstrate that sometimes, it is not lack of intelligence, but a lack of desire to continue in the
institution that sees failure. Dropping out of college may be a choice that some make because they feel that they do not want to be there, but the majority of
those who are unsuccessful, had not followed a few simple rules of being successful in college. A successful college student is above all organized. This is key. Unlike high school,
one will not sail through college if he or she does not complete assignments on time. There is little leeway provided. Of course, if something serious comes up, such as
a death in the family or a court date, it is imperative that a student tell the instructor about a possible absence. Sometimes, exceptions will be made when it comes
to finals if in fact tragedy strikes such as an illness or death in the family. Yet, if the student is disorganized, chaos will result if something in the outside
environment arises unexpectedly. Neatness and organization are important factors. A college student can be successful by using memo books, computers, blackberries and any other items that will help keep them
organized. The most important part of organization is keeping due dates straight. Perhaps the second most important thing that a college student can do to be successful is allow enough
time to get all of the work done. If a student is organized and has a schedule in place, and can balance the schedule with a part-time job, the rest
of the time should be distributed between leisure and school work. Dependent upon the load of coursework, those hours will be geared toward school, but if one is attending a
