is no definitive answers provided. The consideration of what makes a serial killer has turned full cycle, in the early years attempts
were made consideration of the physical characteristic of the serial killer. It is well known that there has been a perception that a criminal can be identified by the size
or placement of their eyes. This is merely an extension of this type of theory. At the beginning of the twentieth century, Cesare Lombrosco described serial killers by their physical
characteristics, which went beyond their eyes, but also looked at a more general discretion such as black hair, a strong jaw, thin lips and big ears as well (quoted in
Beaty). While this may have developed strong stereotypes, today it is seen as a naive and erroneous view. Many of the subsequent
theories look to the environmental factors. There is a common cry that violence will breed violence, with the obvious implication being that serial killers may be influenced by the society
and the media that is all around them. La Donna tells us that a child may see as many as 16,000 murders on television whilst growing up (Beaty)This makes an
easy argument for desensitization. There is persuasive evidence that violence on television does increase the violence in the behaviour of a child on an accumulative basis (La Donna).
Seeing violence in this way may serve to decrease the value attached to life and as such is attractive. However, if this is the case
