does not offer a specific definition for a public relations specialist. It does, however, explain the nature of the job, which includes acting as an advocate for a specific institution
or business (Bureau of Labor, 2008). The description goes on to say that these professionals develop "and maintain positive relationships with the public" (Bureau of Labor, 2008). A statement from
The Public Relations Society of America (2008) is similar in nature, it says that public relations practitioners act as counselors to management. There will also be times when this person
may become a mediator, whether that is between internal groups or between internal and external groups. This writer suggests, based on the readings, that public relations is about keeping a
positive image of the organization before the public. In other words, using information to establish a good reputation in the publics eye. The reason that it is so difficult to
define public relations is because it really means different things to different people. Even the term is confusing. An analytical mind is going to ask: Which public? and What relations?
