The premise of the book is that training killer whales to perform tasks and tricks is done through positive approaches, rather than forcing the whales to do something. Through positive reinforcement, which redirects negative behavior and praises good behavior, killer whales perform. The same applies to people and their relationships according to the work. The following paper presents a report of Blanchards book with a focus on the key points. "Whale Done!" One of the most important key points in the book, and a key point that establishes the foundation for the rest of the work, is that which involves building trust. In relationship to a killer whale building trust can take a considerable amount of time. The author notes that "trust and friendship is the basis of everything" (Blanchard, 2002; 9). This is likely also the case with people, especially if a particular relationship has not been built with any trust and is a well established relationship. In the case of the whales trust is about encouraging and rewarding positive behavior on a very consistent basis. If consistency is not part of the program then the trust will not be gained and any efforts to build a good relationship, be it with whales or people, will not prove incredibly successful In relationship to the foundation of trust the author presents how behavior is addressed which is another key element of the process. In this process the positive behavior is rewarded. In the case of the whales the reward is not always food but is also touching and petting and positive physical contact.
