as well as the world of African American literature. The following paper summarizes her book "When Death Comes Stealing" and then examines the power and importance of the detective Tamara
Hayle. The paper finishes with a discussion of how important Wesley has become in the world of fictional mystery novels. Summary In this story we have Tamara Hayle
and her teenage son. She is a single mother and is African American. In the very beginning of the story she receives a phone call from her ex-husband and later
learns that one of his three sons has been killed. While she has less than positive feelings for her ex-husband she agrees to investigate the murder for him. We see
her attitudes towards her ex-husband in the very beginning, and get a sense of who Tamara is when she informs the reader, "Id been young and foolish...I knew better now"
(Wesley 1). Then one thing leads to another and his other two sons, not Tamara and his son, are murdered as well. Tamara, concerned greatly with the welfare of her
son in light of the murders, becomes incredibly immersed in solving the crimes and becomes immersed in many different social and mysterious worlds throughout the novel. Tamara Hayle
