This paper is a concept analysis of the subject of wellness. A concept analysis is structured in a certain way; well follow the Wilson method as adapted by
Walker & Avant and illustrated in a concept analysis of "Breathlessness" (Concept analysis tutorial, 1998). Assumptions The first section of the analysis asks for assumptions about the subject of
study; i.e., wellness. It cautions researchers that if they come to the subject with negative assumptions, they might tend to find articles and other research that supports their negative
view (Concept analysis tutorial, 1998). The same is true of positive assumptions-researchers who have a favorable impression of their subject may find only material that supports that perspective (Concept
analysis tutorial, 1998). The analysis starts by listing assumptions about the subject. Without doing any research, what might we say about "wellness"? Wellness is more than
good health, though good health is part of it; and being well is better than being ill. Most of us experience wellness during most of our lives (that is,
were well more than were ill), and wellness is a desirable state. Thats really very little to go on, so lets see what others say about wellness. First, "wellness
is not just physical health" but is a "state of total well being, including physical, emotional, social, intellectual, life planning, sexual, cultural and political" (Principles of wellness). Someone who
