The welfare system in this country has evolved to the point where it is bankrupting
our society. Eliminating or even decreasing welfare benefits, however, is a controversial proposition and one that has as many advocates as it has critics. Although it is a
difficult proposition to put in place, the reality is that we must change the way we aid those in need. Welfare, as it was originally envisioned, was intended to
give those in need a leg up, to help them overcome the circumstances of their life that had immerged them in poverty. Today, however, it has become a system
where people work only as hard as it takes them to be entitled for benefits. Somehow we must institute provisions that make welfare a temporary situation rather than a
lifetime arrangement where the lazy benefit from the passivity of the masses who mindlessly continue to pay in taxes to a system that is destined for collapse.
Welfare reform has been a focus of many in this country for decades. Many contend that despite our efforts
to implement reform little has truly been reformed. Essentially this welfare system had become a free-for-all for citizens and immigrants alike and the intent of reform efforts has been
