determining where its powers were concentrated. Perhaps the most pertinent facts to be compared about the two vastly different administrations are the instability of each and the reasons why they
failed. In the comparison, both differences and similarities will be uncovered. While the Third French Republic did have a longer stint, the two governments being compared did overlap in terms
of time. Thus, each government began to disintegrate during the 1930s. II. Similarities and Differences the Weimar Republic vs. The Third French Republic
The Weimar Republic was composed of German conservatives and industrialists where power was given to the Social Democrats to avoid a possible government takeover (Gallagher, 1991). The Social Democrats became
allies with the Old Army in order to suppress the revolution (1991). But January 1919 elections produced the Weimar Coalition, which included the Social Democratic Party of Germany, the German
Democratic Party and the Center (1991). The democratic Weimar Coalition gained 76.2% (Gallagher, 1991, p.PG) of the vote, of which 38% (1991, p.PG) was for the SPD; this suggested
a great deal of support for the republic. The anti republican conservative German National Peoples Party and German Peoples Party together received only 10.3% (1991,p.PG) of the vote. The endurance
of the Weimar Coalition was small as Weimar politics soon became radical and made gains for both the extreme right and left wings (1991).
