and maintaining healthy and lifelong eating habits. Weight Watchers was founded in the 1960s by a housewife in Queens, N.Y. Her name is Jean Nidetch. She desired to share her method
of weight control and healthy living based on a diet published by the New York Board of Health. She went into partnership with Albert Lippert, who had lost 57 pounds
by adhering to her program. They took the company public in 1968. The membership dues were a mere $2.00 a week. From its humble beginnings in a movie theater basement
Weight watchers has grown into one of the largest weight loss systems of modern times. The current weight watchers programs are developed by numerous professionals. These experts include nutritionists, exercise
physiologists, weight managers, and physicians. Many of the weight manager, secretaries, and support leaders were weight watcher clients themselves and are then trained to support and instruct new clients. Some
of the issues they address are: lifestyle management, eating (and other) habits, exercising for a healthier body, and maintaining a healthy body weight. Their intention is to teach methods that
are directed at lifestyle changes, with the presence of a support group that will result in a lifetime of health. Some of the programs that Weight Watchers offer are nutritious
food plans, activity plans, group support, behavioral support plans, and maintenance plans (Nemeth, 1994). As per Weight Watchers regulations, participants can expect to be treated with respect, courtesy, and understanding.
