practically all of our pursuits as humans. Personal health decisions in particular, however, benefit from such skills. There are numerous decisions that we make through our lives regarding
our health that can be applied to our careers in health care. A particularly useful example can be found in the way we approach weight maintenance.
Whether we are thin, heavy, or just right in terms of our size; most of us have considered at one time or another the factors that
go into maintaining a healthy weight. We have likely initiated procedures to help us control our own weight or to help a loved one or friend control theirs.
The processes that we utilized in this personal focus can be utilized in our professional lives as well. When attempting to establish a proper weight, logic combines with scientific
knowledge to help us recognize that not only are genetics important in weight but so too are such things as our diet and our level of activity.
To illustrate the points presented above it is helpful to consider how we may have helped someone that wants to lose weight. If
help them to approach their problem using critical thinking skills they will likely recognize that both their diets and their level of activity are inappropriate if they are to reach
their goal weight. In most cases overweight individuals consume more food than their bodies require to maintain a normal weight. Inactivity compounds the problem. The weight gain
