increasing focus on specialized knowledge (Berry). Webers observation seem to be applicable to todays modern world. After all, there are an increasing number of jobs which require specialized knowledge. The
trend has created a situation where unemployment for professionals is high, or at least, it takes longer to transition to a new job. No one wants to hire someone with
a diverse background and in effect, the employee becomes a part of the machine. He or she is aligned with a particular type of knowledge and is not supposed to
go in another direction. There are many examples of what Weber talks about when he expounds on rationalization. Also, Berry adds that there are " improvements in the techniques of
calculation and measurement" as well as "a widening degree of control over natural and social phenomena" (Brubaker as cited in Berry). This control of which he speaks is clearly intertwined
