Web Services-Interoperability (WS-I) Basic Profile is a major benefit to those who make use of this, however, not all web developers will want to have WS-I compliant pages. WS-I Basic
Profile is a set of standards , or rather specifications that promote interoperability (IBM, 2007). This increases the ability of different web services to communicate, internally or externally between companies.
The specifications are laid down by a industry consortium, the consortium is made up of many leading companies, including IBM. The setting of the standards is undertaken by the
development of principles that create profiles to bring about open standards that can be used in web services development and technology (IBM, 2007). The Web Services Interoperability Organization, which is
governed by the consortium, encourages all members of the industry that are interested in furthering web interoperability to become members (IBM, 2007). There are several different components these include
the components of messaging, description, discovery and security. These various components have supporting standards and specification, which include, but are not limited to SOAP 1.1. HTTP 1.1, Extensible Markup Language
(XML) 1.0, Web Services Description Language (WSDL) 1.1 as well as Discovery and Integration (UDDI) (IBM, 2007). The WSI-BP is key to the development as it is this
that specifies the way in which the interoperability will be achieved, allowing the different components to be used together, with a specification of a compulsory use where there is the
specification of interoperability (IBM, 2007). Each of the components technology specification is laid down in a single document, it is required that Universal Transformation Format (UTF)16 encoding support is
provided under the WS-I BP, UTF is a type of encoding format which stores Universal Character Set (UCS ) characters with the utilization of 16 bit values (WSI, 2007), UFT
