suggested that even as the war itself has come to a close and United States troops bring to "justice" the children and associates of Saddam Hussein, questions about whether the
war itself was justified continue to nag at many. There are some facts that must be recognized when considering George W.
Bushs role and whether his call for weapons of mass destruction justified the war. In recent years, the question of Iraqs role in the Middle East, including their participation
in the first Gulf War and their subsequent protection of anti-American forces in this region of the world has resulted in the implementation of American and UN directed sanctions.
Though there were arguments both for and against the use of sanctions in the Middle East, the elements that led to the second Gulf War, including the acknowledgement of weapons
of mass destruction and the problems that have arisen since the September 11 World Trade Center tragedy determined some of the actions taken by the Bush presidency. Critics of
George Bushs call for the turning over of weapons of mass destruction have argued that Bushs interests have been purely economic, and come at a time when his approval rating
in the United States was at an all time low. Some say that Bushs decision to go to war extends from his belief that a victory against Saddam Hussein,
and the discovery of weapons of mass destruction, will serve his presidency and improve the economic and social condition of the Bush regime. Since the end of World
