biological agents. Everyone agrees that WMDs are horrible and posses a threat not only to American society, but to the world. Everyone agrees that something should be done; however,
there is considerable disagreement about what should make-up this the next course of action in combating this threat. The following analysis of recent news articles and editorials demonstrates the
diversity of opinion, and expresses the seriousness of the situation. While these articles do not point towards a definitive solution, they do suggest that the US should move cautiously, as
the information available indicates that a simplistic solution of brute force could have tremendous negative repercussions. According to Krieger (2002) the attacks on the World Trace Center and
the Pentagon were powerful "warnings" about what could come, as this attack demonstrated the willingness of terrorists to sacrifice themselves in their efforts to harm US citizens (p. 62). However,
Krieger further asserts that the US government is not doing enough, in the wake of these attacks, to prevent nuclear weapons or weapons-grade nuclear materials from falling into the hands
of the nations enemies (2002). There are numerous scenarios that depict how this could occur. For example, India and Pakistan have both demonstrated that they have nuclear capabilities.
If Pakistan came under the control of Islamic extremist, this would put nuclear weapons in the hands of a regime that almost certainly would harbor terrorists (Krieger, 2002). Furthermore,
it is imperative that the trade in WMDs between countries should be halted. Senate Majority Leader Howard Baker headed a US blue ribbon commission, which called for spending $3 million
