in weapons. This paper considers the types of weapons used in the First World War. Discussion When World War I is discussed, it is usually because it is the conflict
most closely associated with trench warfare. The dreadful battles in France went on for months, as troops attacked and counterattacked, winning and losing a few feet of ground at the
cost of hundreds of thousands of lives. Trench warfare actually goes back to the 17th century, and was used off and on in the American Civil War (Chambers, 2000). But
it is WWI that reveals the full horror of this type of warfare. World War I also saw the development and deployment of the tank, though its record on
the battlefield was mixed (Duffy, 2009). The British were the first to deploy this weapon; two men in particular supported its development, both of whom would become Prime Minister: David
