Moore, who was a Lt. Col. at the time, took his 450 troops into the first field battle between the Americans and the North Vietnamese in 1965. They were dropped
from helicopters and found themselves surrounded by 2,000 enemy soldiers. They engaged in nearly non-stop battle for three days until they were picked up. The tally: 79 deaths and 121
wounded on the American side; more than 800 deaths on the North Vietnamese side. I find this battle to be the epitome of our military forces in field battles. They
dont give up. In fact, sometimes, they become stronger through sheer will and determination. Moore is known to be an ethical and contemplative leader. The fact that he had combat
experience in Korea and his top sergeants had combat experience in WWII, Korea, or both provided the group with an edge. They knew what it took to win on the
ground. Further, Moore did a lot of planning and organizing before they left the country. They did have help with rockets being launched. The concern was that the enemy was
so close in proximity, it would have been easy for the rocket launcher to miss and hit Moores troops. In fact, they were so close in proximity that Moore ordered
the men to attach their bayonets a few times. Summary of Leadership Information Leadership, management, and supervision may be distinguished from each other but the fact is that the
person in any of these roles must perform the responsibilities of all of them. Leaders must manage at times and managers must lead many times. Supervisors, if that is their
