Giltman 8/2010 Please Studies have shown that there are many different ways to treat wastewater. In fact, most of the water that is used by humans must be properly treated before it is emitted back to the environment. Treating the water means removing pollutants from the water so it can be used to protect fish and wildlife while maintaining the health of the Earths ponds, lakes and rivers. Furthermore, there is what is known as secondary water treatment methods and tertiary water treatment methods. This last method is also known as advanced or final water treatment. The minimum amount of treatment water can receive is secondary treatment. However, most plants and cities and industries implement tertiary wastewater treatment processes to try and get rid of as many pollutants as possible. As manager of this large water district, it is my recommendation that we use tertiary water treatment for the groundwater recharge rather than the minimal secondary treatment, especially if this water will be used for drinking and human consumption. Here are the reasons why: The object of secondary water treatment is the removal of further residual organics and suspended solids (NRMED, 2010). However, the process of the tertiary water treatment involves removing further constituents which are often neglected in the secondary water treatment process. In addition, reclaimed water that is being used for drinking must go through the tertiary process rather than stopping at the second stage (Bieroza, Bridgeman & Baker, 2010).
