make people very sick and incapacitate large numbers at the same time. This paper reviews the City of Worcester (Massachusetts) 2004 Water Quality Report. Discussion The
City of Worcesters 2004 Water Quality Report is interesting reading, and shows a community that appears to be determined to maintain a high level of water cleanliness for its citizens,
in compliance with EPA regulations. Lets examine the report more closely. First, we want to know if there is evidence of repeated testing. The answer is yes, although
the sampling techniques, and the number of samples taken, varied with the type of contaminant being sought. By far the greatest number of tests were done looking for microbiological
contaminants; specifically "total coliform bacteria" (Moylan, 2004). "Total coliform bacteria are a group of bacteria that serve as indicators of potential water quality problems" though they are not necessarily harmful
in and of themselves (Moylan, 2004). However, their presence in water may indicate that "conditions are right for the presence of more harmful microorganisms" (Moylan, 2004). "Fecal Coliform is
a group of bacteria that thrive at warmer temperatures" such as those found in the gut (Moylan, 2004). When Total Coliform bacteria are found a test for Fecal Coliform
bacteria is automatically performed; there were no Fecal Coliform bacteria found in Worcesters water (Moylan, 2004). In order to test for microbiological contamination, the city collects "a minimum of 120
water samples in the City each month" (Moylan, 2004). The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection has approved various sampling sites throughout Worcester "so that the water being tested is
truly representative of that flowing from consumers taps" (Moylan, 2004). In 2004, the city collected and tested 2,300 samples for Total Coliform bacteria (Moylan, 2004). With the exception
