the beginning. Lakes, streams, rivers, ground water and even the oceans have been polluted and as a result, organisms needed to sustain some form of life are being harmed and
eliminated (Krantz and Kifferstein, 2009). Pollution is defined as making the water dirty, foul and unclean (Krantz and Kifferstein, 2009). Bodies of water become polluted when foreign and harmful
materials are added to the water (Krantz and Kifferstein, 2009). When that body of water becomes unfit to use for its intended purpose, the water is considered polluted (Krantz and
Kifferstein, 2009). We all know what pollution has done to our drinking water, just look at the numbers of people who drink bottled water and/or who have some sort of
water purifying system in their homes. There are numerous causes of water pollution, including chemicals, sewage, fertilizers, pathogens, petroleum, radioactive materials, heat, and more (Krantz and Kifferstein, 2009). Heat is
identified as a pollutant because when the water temperature gets too hot, it kills various organisms which keep the water clean (Krantz and Kifferstein, 2009). There are three classifications
for water pollution: industrial, agricultural, and municipal. Municipal consists of waste water from all buildings, homes and business (Krantz and Kifferstein, 2009). Agricultural of all kinds, including commercial poultry and
livestock farming (Krantz and Kifferstein, 2009). Organic pollutants harm groundwater and surface waters, like rivers (Krantz and Kifferstein, 2009). The specific pollutants from industry depends on the industry. Silt,
soil and other surface solids can wash off fields, logging sites, construction sites and even eroding river banks and go into whatever body of water is there, such as a
