time when violence seemed imminent and success seemed uncertain. Numerous African Americans were struggling for equal rights, equal treatment, and equal opportunities. The education system was only one of many
aspects where such struggles were seen. In Melba Pattilo Beals book "Warriors Dont Cry" the author takes us back more than forty years to her own experiences as one of
the several African American students struggling to be allowed into white schools in order that they receive a better education. In the following paper we provide a brief overview and
analysis of the story. Location The story takes place in one of the most historical places known for its struggle against the system. The place is Little Rock, Arkansas.
The school is Central High. This is, as mentioned, one of the most notorious regions for the struggles against injustice in the school system. And it was here that the
struggle for desegregation took place most powerfully. Time The time is, for the most part, 1957. However, it is a time that also incorporates other years as well.
Beals takes us through her birth and her early childhood, and also makes mention of the US Supreme Court decision of Brown v. the Board of Education, which clearly include
other periods of time. The most important time period, however, is 1957, when Beals turned 16 and the struggles truly began. Main Characters The primary character is, of
course, Beals who recounts her experiences, presents parts of her diary, and generally gives us a first hand look at the conditions of the time. She was a strong girl,
but she was also a girl who wished nothing more than to be a simple child, wishing she could learn how to "not" be a warrior so that she could
