Former spokesman later turned White House Press Secretary Mike McCurry once likened his constant energy and ongoing activity to that of the unstoppable hero of the battery world, the Energizer
Bunny (Katz, 1995). Both are apt descriptions of the man who worked so closely not only with his own nations leaders but with leaders of nations worldwide in an
effort to bring about peace during his 1993 -1997 tenure, former United States Secretary of State Warren Christopher. The office of Secretary of State is a key government position that
carries with it much responsibility and which places in the hands of its holder much of the nations diplomatic power concerning its foreign affairs. The Secretary is the chief
adviser to the President regarding U.S. foreign affairs and is responsible for the implementation and execution of the nations foreign policies as directed by the President (Bureau of Public Affairs,
http://secretary.state.gov/www/ albright/duties.html). With the nations peace and its diplomatic face at risk, the office of Secretary of State is a position that is closely scrutinized by the publics eye
and one that is not easy to fill under any circumstances. Warren Christopher was the first person to hold this office following the end of the Cold War, which
put him into a position which had not been occupied for over half a century. Christopher as Secretary of State was confronted with the task of outlining and refining
a foreign policy in an America that was, for a change, under no immediate threat to its national security. In a time of peace, it was Christophers job to
insure this peace and to secure and maintain the position of leadership held by the United States of America (Office of the Press Secretary, 1999, http:/www.whitehouse.gov/WH/New/html/19990330-1371.html).
